$5B Medical Device Manufacturer
Role:
VP, Clinical Affairs
Situation:
Our client, a multi-billion dollar medical device manufacturer, was faced with the difficult search for a VP of Clinical Affairs. After attempting the search the year prior with a different team and ultimately being disappointed by their results, our client trusted us to go to market after mutually agreeing to identify 8 shortlisted candidates. Our client advised of internal sensitivity surrounding this hire, resulting in the need for a highly confidential search execution.
Our Approach:
The team took an aggressive approach to identifying clinical leaders in the medical device space coming out of innovative organizations. Given that this leader would be tasked with setting the overall global clinical strategy in partnership with Medical Affairs, including designing IDE/PMA trials, this individual needed a true mastery of clinical execution at the innovation stage. Outside of this, the incoming hire would be mandated with developing the Clinical Engineering Team, leading clinical program execution and leading a team of 40+.
Result:
Our search efforts led to a longlist of 250+ candidates, reflecting a fully-canvassed market. Within four weeks, the team presented, and our client approved, 8 shortlisted candidates who were interested in interviewing despite not knowing the identity of our client. Once NDAs were executed and our candidates interviewed, our client not only hired a “unicorn” VP of Clinical Affairs (their words, not ours!), but they also created a separate VP-level clinical leadership role for one of their other finalists.
