VP of Engineering
Situation:
The Emerald Cloud Lab leadership team approached SSC to recruit a highly-specialized VP of Engineering. With the departure of their long-time incumbent, the new hire would face critical mandates: enhancing collaboration between scientific development and engineering teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and business discipline, leading a high-performing, deeply technical team, and acting as a strategic partner to both Founders and Co-CEOs.
Our Approach:
SSC meticulously identified and engaged with 230 top-tier engineering leaders, each with a proven track record in complex scientific and engineering ventures within fast-paced startup environments. In alignment with the company’s ambitious growth plans, our talent pool prioritized local candidates, with 25% located near headquarters. Given the advanced technological requirements, our candidates boasted exceptional backgrounds, featuring successful growth stories and exits alongside prior experience with best-in-class organizations (ex-IBM, ex-Microsoft, ex-Amazon, and others).
The Result:
Our rigorous multi-stage interview process, which included initial phone and video interviews, ensured only the best candidates progressed to client meetings. SSC conducted 71 in-depth assessments and presented 25 highly qualified candidates for the shortlist. Collaborating closely with our client through an extensive technical evaluation, we identified 2 outstanding finalists. An offer was made to an exceptional candidate with three successful exits in cutting-edge technology startups and former leadership experience at IBM.
